It's great when life is smooth sailing, with the wind at your back and you're cruising along. But every now and then the wind comes up, the water gets choppy and the waves can be downright scary. You try to ride out the storm and hope it passes quickly, but sometimes you end up just depressed, anxious and stuck. That's when having another steady hand on the wheel can be so helpful. At times like these, finding the right counselor can really be valuable. I offer a caring and supportive environment to help you better understand the challenges you face. Together we can find creative, practical solutions.
My approach to counseling and therapy is straightforward. I'm focused on how to help you feel better and live your life in a more satisfying way. I work from an Existential-Humanistic perspective. The beauty and power of this approach lies in the integration of who you are, the larger context of your life in relation to the reasons you've come to therapy. In working through the challenges that brought you to therapy, you will gain a deeper sense of self, more authentic presence in the world, and greater recognition of opportunities for change.
Therapy is of great benefit for those who are working through difficult issues as well as anyone who is engaged in self-exploration and personal growth. The therapy process opens the door to new perceptions, and opportunities to understand and pursue those things in life that are truly important and meaningful to you. In turn, this promotes a life filled with courage, kindness, deep satisfaction, and joy.
Particular issues that I focus on include:
~ Life Transitions / Personal Growth
~ Anxiety / Depression /Panic
~ Trauma / Grief
~ Relationship / Codependency
~ Problem Gambling
Since finding the right therapist is important, I offer a free consultation so you and I can have a chance to meet and determine if we are a good fit. I invite you to contact me and take the first step to feeling better.

What motivates any of us to ask for help?
I think we reach out when the distress we feel is greater than continuing to ignore the challenges in our lives. These challenges can be from internal or external sources.
It's okay to ask for help ~ in fact it is a sign of strength, and a step towards better health.
I have experience in treating depression, anxiety, situational stressors, sexual abuse and domestic violence victims, support for life-threatening health conditions and other life challenges. I also have experience helping clients deal with "co-occurring disorders" of chemical or behavioral addictions as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other mental health disorder.
My initial consultation session is offered without fee. My standard fee is $80 for a 50 minute session, I may be able to accept your insurance benefits, so please do ask if you have questions. I also offer a sliding fee scale for uninsured clients or those suffering significant financial strain in their lives.

Therapy can be a very effective and efficient way to move through difficult life
circumstances and have the ability to think, behave and feel differently afterward. It can
often start with really recognizing where we're at in our lives and accepting it for what
it is; at the same time, this acceptance also frees us to explore ways of making change,
whether individually or in our relationships.
I do therapy because it is satisfying, intimate, honest, and creative, which I hope, is how
our lives can be, too. Critical to creating a gratifying life is to be surrounded by people
who model this for us, somehow. Good therapy can provide that role-modeling. As a
therapist, my goal is to create an atmosphere of safety, respect, and being heard -- the
wellspring from which "doing it differently," whatever that might mean, can come.
To give you a little background about myself, I have an undergraduate degree in
Psychology from Whitman College and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology
from Naropa University. I have worked in the human services field for twenty years, and
have worked with a variety of people and issues: adolescents and adults experiencing
psychosis/serious mental health conditions -- and their families; teen parents and their
families; people experiencing poverty, homelessness and hopelessness; a variety of ethnic
or cultural groups; GLBTQ individuals; geriatric folks, and people experiencing anxiety,
depression, addiction, indecision, feeling stuck, unhappy in their relationships, etc. I
have also worked with people who have experienced shattering events that cause them to
doubt or redefine long-held beliefs, or when these events happen early in life, cause them
to develop beliefs that are ultimately destructive.
My graduate school training is in Gestalt therapy and mindfulness meditation training.
After graduate school, I have received training in various other evidence-based practices
(Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral
approaches, etc.).
I work with people to gain awareness, recognize patterns in their lives, approach
themselves with gentleness and non-judgment while holding themselves accountable for
what they have created until now and want to create in the future. I strive to cultivate an
open space to practice new ways of being.
I would be pleased to offer a free 30 minute consultation for us to decide if there is a
good therapeutic fit. My fee is $80/hr, though I provide a sliding scale fee down to $30/
hr to help make it affordable. At this time, I do not accept insurance. I can be reached at
my email address or my cell phone for questions or scheduling. Here’s to good health!

Nearly everyone, at some point in their lives, experiences feelings of depression, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck.
Whether these feelings are the result of childhood experiences or current circumstances, meaningful change can come from counseling.
My approach is practical, straightforward, and collaborative, with the goal of expanding self-awareness and gaining insight into patterns that might be causing difficulty in your life and relationships. While emotional pain brings you into therapy, it is your strengths that are an integral part of the therapy process.
I received my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College, and have a bachelor of science degree in Psychology.
I have worked in both clinical and private practice and enjoy working with clients from many different backgrounds. I currently provide counseling for adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are working through depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, childhood abuse, grief/bereavement, as well as relationship issues between couples and families.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation to allow us to get to know each other and make sure we are a good fit.
After that, my fee is $65 per 50-minute session. I accept payment at time of service. While I don't work with insurance companies directly, I am happy to provide you with a receipt that you can use for reimbursement from your insurance company. I also offer a sliding scale based on need.
