Are you ready to make some changes in your life but don’t know how to begin? Counseling can help you change your perspective, which can improve how you feel. Coping more effectively with negative thoughts and feelings can help you make a positive impact at work; put you in charge of your health, well being, and how you see yourself; and give you more time to put in to things you value. Imagine how it would be if you could achieve greater balance in your life, find a direction or purpose, and create or improve relationships.

What I can offer you:
  • Ways to reduce depression, anxiety, frustration, stress and job burnout, through either brief, solutions-focused therapy or longer term therapy, if you want to go deeper.
  • Skills to boost resilience in times of transition such as coping with losses.
  • Relationship counseling with couples who want better communication, less arguing, greater connection.
  • Help for families with parenting challenges, or those who are dealing with pregnancy loss.
  • Support for family caregivers when their parents, in-laws, spouses or children develop serious health problems or are coming to the end of their lives.
  • Extensive experience helping breast cancer survivors.
  • Wide knowledge of career assessment tools used to explore and identify career and education goals.
  • Practical strategies in today’s economy to make an impact with your job search and help you stay focused.
  • Assistance with creating a resume and preparing for interviews.
  • Job Search Support Group (see Events and Groups page)
I have over 25 years of experience working with adults, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the State of OR, and I uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and confidentiality. I hold memberships in the Oregon Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Association (AMHA OR).

My standard fees are $90 for 50 minute individual sessions, and $100 for couple's sessions. Ask me about sliding fee options, available for those who otherwise could not afford counseling. I offer both evening and day appointments and accept cash and personal checks. As your Insurnce Provider if they offer Behavioral or Mental Health Benefits, and if they work with out-of-network providers. If the answers are yes, I am willing to do the necessary paper work in order for you to get reimbursed, minus your co-pay. Please call or email me if you have any questions.

I believe that all humans have an internal desire to become all they can be and will do so given the opportunity. This includes acceptance of self and others, having successful relationships in all aspects of life, and general wellbeing. Both the positive as well as the challenging experiences in life give us a sense of who we are, which may not always be helpful.

I take a mind-body centered approach to counseling because I believe we cannot separate one from the other. Through mindful, non-judgmental self-observation, the client becomes more aware of their patterns of behavior. This allows the client to shift focus to learning new ways of coping that may be more successful and helpful to them.

My style is direct, nurturing, humorous at times, and collaborative. Success in counseling is best accomplished when the client and therapist act as a team, making the decisions of what to explore together.

My education & training include a BS (Summa Cum Laude): Child and Family Studies/Psychology; M.S. awarded with honors in Community Counseling, and Graduate Certificate in Marriage & Family Therapy at Portland State University. In addition, I have advanced training in mind-body centered psychotherapy through the Hakomi Institute of Oregon. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors.

I hold professional affiliations with the American Counseling Association, ORCA (Oregon Counseling Association), the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Psychological Association and the Society for the Study of the Psychology of Men and Masculinity.

My standard fee is $80 per 50 minute session and I offer a sliding fee scale based on need. Insurance is not accepted at this time, however I will provide an invoice for claim submission. I see clients in private practice during afternoon and evening hours, and I look forward to your call.

Modern teens are so dynamic, unique and filled with promise!

Unfortunately, the relentless pace of this "24-hour-connected" age has created roadblocks, detractors and pressures that previous generations never faced. The deck can seem hopelessly stacked against struggling adolescents and their families, leaving them overwhelmed and dejected, wondering how and if things could ever change.

My counseling approach caters to the modern adolescent ~ my style is humorous, creative, frank, resilient, "un-shockable," inviting, and always striving to put myself in my client's shoes. I team up with teens against the problems keeping them from achieving their full potential. I help them gain confidence, guide their own ship, identify strengths and discover who they are and who they can become!

I have eight years experience working with adolescents, teens and families and hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College. My fee scale ($40) reflects my deep understanding that teens and their families are often facing financial strain, and yet still may need and certainly deserve professional, and affordable services.

Please feel free to call me at 503-544-7631 with any questions, or email daniellemcwilliamscounseling@gmail.com for more information or to set an initial appointment.

Did you know that 1 in 8 mothers experience prenatal and/or postpartum depression? Others experience anxiety, a combination of anxiety and depression, or other challenging symptoms. Many women feel alone and ashamed when pregnancy or the postpartum year include unexpected sadness, irritation, repetitive fears or thoughts, difficulty sleeping, lack of bonding with their baby, or feelings of hopelessness. You are not alone. I have a passion for working with new and expecting mothers who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, and challenges that can come with the transition to parenthood. I am familiar with natural and attachment parenting approaches. Your infant is welcome to accompany you to counseling.

My practice is not limited to new mothers. I welcome and enjoy working with men and women with a variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, and personal exploration and growth. My style of support is collaborative and compassionate. I believe in the power of respect, encouragement, curiosity, humor, empathy, and our innate human potential. I blend a variety of therapeutic approaches, tailored to each client’s preference and need, including:

~ Solution-focused therapy
~ Cognitive behavioral therapy
~ Mindfulness
~ Relaxation
~ Art therapy
~ Psychoeducation

I hold a Masters degree in Community Counseling from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. My standard fee is $40 per 50-minute session, with a sliding scale available based on financial need. I can accept either a check or cash at the end of the session. I offer a free 30-minute consultation to allow us to get to know each other and explore whether we are a good fit.
