Support Group for Siblings of Children with Special Needs
The focus of this group will be to build relationships among siblings of children with special needs. The content of the group will include: defining “special needs” and exploring ways to talk to others about your unique family, emotional identification and expression, developing healthy coping skills for managing stress, defining and exploring self goals as differentiated from family goals, and getting support from teachers, adults and peers. The group is open to boys and girls ages 8-11 and will run from October 7, 2010- November 18th, 2010 from 5:15-6:45 pm. The group will be held at Wise Counsel and Comfort, 5932 NE Glisan, Portland, OR. The cost of the seven week group is $120-$220 per participant based on family income. MEDITATION GROUP
Join Paul Rakoczy for a new “LOVING KINDNESS” meditation group. It will be held at the office at 423 NE 60th Ave at Glisan, on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 9AM until noon. Lynne Nesbit LPC, director of WISE COUNSEL & COMFORT, has donated the space for the group so donations are not necessary. There will be multiple sits with discussion in between. Bring your own sit cushions, chairs are supplied. Beginners are welcome and appreciated. Job Search Support Group
This group is for men and women between jobs who are looking for more than just job listings . . . who are feeling discouraged about the search. Facilitator, Anne Bryant, LPC, has more than twenty five years experience as a counselor and college instructor in career development. The group time will be devoted to 1) specific job search issues (search techniques, resume formats, informational interviewing to uncover hidden jobs, and preparing for interviews) as well as 2) developing coping skills for enduring the wait until that perfect job manifests itself! Skills to keep your spirits up, guard against bitterness and cynicism, handle perceived rejection, coping with anger and stress. The group will be held on Monday afternoons, 4:00 - 5:50 p.m. at our downtown office. Group fees are $20 per session, or $75 for 4 if paid in advance. Initial no-cost consultation is required. Relationship Issues Group
This weekly process group, for individuals moving through painful issues in their relationships (breakups, divorce, heartbreak, affairs, fear of intimacy, single life, etc.) is held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at our 3430 SE Belmont office. The group is facilitated by Alec Wilson, M.S. Group members will be supported to share at their own pace, and will benefit from information about how you can best support your own healing process and access supportive resources you can use on your own. MINDING ANGER and other strong emotions...
Men are invited to participate in this ongoing group at our Beaumont office at 4605 NE Fremont, Suite 209, on Wednesday evenings, 7:30 to 9 pm. The group is facilitated by Marc Hess, L.C.S.W. In this variation on traditional anger management groups, we will utilize principles of mindfulness, meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, anger management, DBT skills, and Ki-Aikido concepts to help rise above unhealthy emotional states. Fees: $90 for initial assessment, $50 per group. Fees can be reduced, based on income. Marc is glad to work with your insurance company if benefits are available for this service. Women’s Growth Groups
Are you interested in sharing support and insight with other women? I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in women’s issues. I have been working with women since 1977. This group will create community among women, explore issues of personal growth, improve self esteem, and explore mental, emotional, spiritual and physical healing and wholeness.
The group will meet each week on Sunday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m. The fee is $20 per person, per session.
