I am a Board Eligible Nationally Certified Counselor and work with children, teenagers, adults and families. My specialties include grief and loss after a death, anxiety and depression, dealing with cancer, and general family and life transition. I cap my fees at $40 per 50-minute session.

I believe that the smallest, simplest act has the possibility to produce great change. Even the most difficult problem can be transformed by a minimal shift in focus or slight change in perspective. I am committed to your individuality and will work with you to determine the best possible treatment method, intervention or approach to address your therapeutic needs.

My theoretical orientation is essentially cognitive-behavioral in nature, though I also integrate techniques from many different theories of counseling in our work together. When working with children, I use play therapy approaches. Often times, children don't have the language express themselves and play is the way for a child to project their inner thoughts, feelings, and experiences into the play world they create.

I believe that healing comes from within and my approach is both research-based and holistic. I believe in the unity of the mind and body and feel that our bodies communicate to us. I hope to encourage you to follow your own instincts and to trust your inner wisdom.

If you've gotten this far and you think we might be a good fit, please contact me for an initial no cost consultation. If we decide to work together, it will be my goal to create a safe and comforting space where your healing process can unfold. My role is to work with you to facilitate your goals, whatever they may be...

I look forward to hearing from you.

I offer individual, couples and family counseling for people who are struggling with issues such as:

  • Stress due to life changes
  • Feeling depressed or down
  • Having difficulty making changes -- feeling 'stuck,' ashamed, frustrated or angry about not making the changes you would like to make
  • Relationship problems
  • Communication problems
  • Substance abuse or gambling problems
  • Relationship with another who is using substances or gambling
  • Difficulty after a traumatic experience
  • Feeling anxious about making changes
  • Grief and loss
  • Building a meaningful and fulfilling life

I believe we all have the capacity to make positive choices and create growth in our lives, and that exploration of the past and present, along with learning skills for the present and future, can be helpful. A central focus of my practice is to help clients move out of cycles of self-blame for not meeting goals in spite of repeated attempts by instead learning to recognize the coping behaviors that are no longer working and replace those with more effective ways to meet goals.

Qualifications: I hold a Master’s degree in Community Counseling and an Education Specialist’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III, and Certified Gambling Addiction Counselor II.

Experience: I have been working in the mental health and addictions field in the Portland area since 2003. During this time, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families to address issues related to mental health, substance abuse, and gambling addiction, and the impact of these on relationships.

My standard fee for a 50-minute session is $95.00. I offer one free 30-minute initial consultation per client, couple, or family, during which we can determine whether we are a good fit to work together. I am on some insurance panels, including MHN (covers HealthNet members), ODS, and LifeSynch (covers Humana members). I am able to bill some other insurance plans, and I can work with you to determine if your insurance will cover our sessions. If you are interested in working with me, do not have insurance, and would have difficulty paying my standard rate, please do not hesitate to contact me, as I have some availability for those paying at my discounted fee schedule rates. .

Practice Locations: I practice at the Wise Counsel office in Gresham and at a second office in Sandy.

I know that finding a counselor can be difficult, as each client has unique needs and each counselor offers a different skill set and approach. I invite all inquiries, and will be happy to schedule a free 30-minute initial consultation with you. For more information about me and my practice, see my website at www.dinayerex.com

It may not be the events themselves, but the way in which we think and communicate about them that cause problems.

Clinical research tells us that the therapeutic ‘relationship’ is much more important to provide hope, encouragement and induce change than the therapeutic ‘method’ used. Cultivating that open, honest, trusting, and supportive relationship and providing a safe environment for change is my primary focus. If you appreciate honest, empathetic and compassionate communication, we can work together to help you identify your wants and needs, and to practice coping and communication skills which will continue to aid you far past the current crisis.

I operate from a systems approach (we are just one cog in the wheel of life) and tend to utilize a relatively short-term, solution-focused model with YOUR goals in mind (meaning that you have the solution to your problem locked up in there somewhere, we just need to work together to uncover it). Combined with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (retraining the way we think about our problems) this goal-oriented approach can result in relatively quick improvement in feelings and actions.

I have been a practicing counselor since 1979, a child and family therapist since 1986, and a mediator since 1996. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology, associated with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists and the Oregon Counseling Association. In addition to private practice, I have worked as a counselor/therapist, mediator, clinical supervisor and administrator for public and private sector agencies and organizations, schools, non-profit agencies and county programs. I believe that this diversity of training and experience provides me with a wide range of skills and a flexible approach to each client or couple's unique circumstances.

My current practice includes work with individual adults and adolescents, couples and family counseling, midlife and transition issues, and medical crisis counseling.

My services are $40-120 per 30-70 minute session, and I can bill several insurance plans. For more information or to schedule a consultation time, feel free to browse my website at www.SolutionInMind.org, contact me by email at Laura@SolutionInMind.org, or by phone at 503-423-7951. I look forward to being of help to you.
